SOI is defined as \"sense of being disease-stricken with pain and suffering directly attributable or related to the disease.\"  It is a simple concept that contains no subordinate concept.  We conducted a preliminary survey and a survey of 300 diabetics; ten-item scale was created.  In this Study, we conducted a survey of 250 CSD patients, using a test-retest method for 100 subjects.  We obtained 195 responses for SOI to examine the scales' validity and reliability.  As only the first factor was extracted through factor analysis, the one-dimensionality of the scales for SOI was supported.  The Health Questionnaire [HQ] was used to examine the validity of the scales in terms of the predicted relationship between the concepts.  The validity of SOI was supported through the relationship with the HQ (r=-0.74, p<.01).  As for reliability, the coefficient alpha was 0.92.  The test-retest method was employed, which resulted in a correlation coefficient of 0.84 (p<.01), supporting the reliability of SOI.
